Historic Vote Makes Gay Marriage Legal in New York State

Good Lord, how often is it the New York state legislature makes you proud?

The Republican-controlled state Senate voted 32-29 late Friday night to bring gay marriage to New York. The vote came after a long, messy week in which the Republicans fretted endlessly about whether Hasidic florists would be forced to provide flowers to gay weddings, but in the end, they came through and actually did something that was cutting edge and at least a little bit brave. Can't remember the last time that happened.

Who doesn't like Rough Trade?

Rough Trade is the top leather and gear shop in the Silverlake neighborhood of Los Angeles. You can liken this area to the East Village of New York with it's large gay hipster population that has a strong hint of leather. Every time I am in LA it proves to be a good place to spread the butter around and I love to visit area stores that stock my products. My sister, super-model Donna Feldman was able to capture on video the moment that I broke the all time score at the dance video game at the mini golf course and arcade in Sherman Oaks, CA, Castle Park. Onlookers came by to congratulate me afterward, I would like to thank all those that supported me and all those dance parties where I picked up all those bitchin moves are finally paying off.

My nephew's 4th Birthday Bash at Chuck E. Cheese

Yesterday was the 4th birthday of my youngest nephew, Michael Peck. It was held at Chuck E. Cheese, a children's sit down pizza restaurant with video games, prizes, other fun stuff and especially noise, kid's love it.  We had a good time and the best part occurred at the end when my nephews were placed in a closed wind chamber with tons of wind and flying tickets they redeem for crappy prizes. Coming across a Picasso at my dad's office

I arrived in Los Angeles to visit family and my first stop from the airport was my father's custom picture framing factory in Van Nuys, Capitol Arts and Frames. My father's business has been around for over 30 years and while growing up we were surrounded by fine artworks that hung on our walls and decorated our homes. There were always beautiful pieces that stood out, but yesterday I was treated to a painting of a woman by Pablo Picasso himself which I was told is worth $500,000. I am not a huge fan of Picasso's work, but I am fully aware of his greatness and since Picasso and I were both former residents of Barcelona we do have some things in common. Take a look at this artwork I photographed yesterday, I was quite impressed.

Fashion Model Directory's Model of the Month: Donna Feldman

My super model sister has done it again standing at 5’10”, American fashion model Donna Feldman is said to be one of the world’s sexiest women. Apart from her striking looks and her stunning eyes, Donna has already appeared in several international campaigns for Jaguar, Revlon, Pontiac for Sports Illustrated, Sean John, Wella, Christian Audigier Swimwear, Zanetti, Diesel , Panasonic, just to mention a few.  While Donna would not mind if we would be back in the 90’s, she appeared in recent chart-topping music videos by Enrique Iglesias (Tired of Being Sorry), Justin Timberlake (Señorita) and Sugar Ray (It’s so Easy), as well as the lead in Dwight Yoakam’s Blame the Vain.

The Boy Butter beach house opens Summer of 2011 in the Pines

There’s no place on earth like Fire Island Pines. Fire Island is a barrier island located off the south shore of Long Island in New York. A sought-after summer destination, the island is comprised of several resort villages overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.  Well over 800,000 people visit Fire Island beaches each summer which begins in earnest after Memorial Day through to right after Labor Day. Two towns on Fire Island became one of the first Gay and Lesbian towns in the world, Cherry Grove and later the Pines. They proved a refuge for gays and lesbians who sought an escape from the overt discrimination and harassment they endured back on the mainland. Playwright Oscar Wilde was among the first to discover Fire Island. He spent several days at the old Perkinson Hotel in the Grove during his American tour in 1882. Today it is a legendary gay playground for the who's who of gay New York, it is very much like a gay Hamptons, only it's more fun and the guys are in much better shape. The Pines is a place where you can be yourself, enjoy the weather, take some sun on the beach and enjoy some cocktails at Low and High Tea. Low and High Tea are the community’s central social activity filled with drinks and music from 6 to 10 pm then maybe some dancing at the Pavillion afterward. Brendan, myself and several beautiful roommates share a summer beach house that I lovingly call the Boy Butter Beach House with flag perched on top and make sure all manner of Boy Butter propaganda fill the Pines during our stays.

NY LGBT Center slammed as center of anti-Israel activity

Manhattan institution providing fig leaf for Arab homophobia, Wiesenthal Center says.

Dr. Shimon Samuels, the Wiesenthal Center’s international director, told The Jerusalem Post on Wednesday that Queers Against Israeli Apartheid was a group of “self-hating gays” who “are working against the interests of their own brothers and sisters and should be shunned by all LGBT NGOs. By accepting them, the New York center is providing a fig leaf for Arab homophobia.”

He continued, “Gay anti-Zionism is an oxymoron in that Israel is the only country in the Middle East and in the Islamic region where sexual diversity can be practiced freely without discrimination. In fact, many Palestinian and other Arab gays have sought refuge in Tel Aviv. Gays certainly had no such rights under South African Apartheid, and to even apply that term to Israel is defamatory and the theft of another people’s narrative.”

In February, the LGBT Center agreed to provide space during “Israeli Apartheid Week” to the anti-Israel group Siege Busters, to raise money for a new flotilla to break Israel’s blockade of the Gaza Strip.

After Michael Lucas, a columnist for the gay monthly The Advocate and an adult entertainment producer, called for a financial boycott of the LGBT Center, the center pulled the plug on its “A Party to End Apartheid” event with Siege Busters, saying that the group was not involved in LGBT issues.

As for the center’s move to host Queers Against Israeli Apartheid last week, Lucas told the Post, “The president of the board of directors for the LGBT Center, Mario Palumbo, and its executive director, Glennda Testone, are staunch anti-Zionists. In fact, they are anti-Zionist and anti-Israeli to the point that they would not meet with representatives from major Jewish organizations (Jewish Community Relations Council of New York and the Jewish Council for Public Affairs) that wanted to explain to them that the word ‘apartheid’ cannot be applicable to the Jewish state.”

Lucas continued, “Initially, they agreed to the meeting, but then they canceled it two hours prior. However, they have had many meetings with all the anti-Israeli organizations that requested a meeting, culminating in the decision to grant them the space.”

It appears that the activists from Siege Busters have switched over to Queers Against Israeli Apartheid so they can argue that their group is involved in LGBT issues.

“If the NYC LGBT Center is to embrace this new ‘policy of moral relativism’ it will need to open its doors immediately to other hate organizations that cleverly append the word ‘queer’ to their names, like ‘Queer Neo Nazis, ‘Queers for al- Qaida,’ ‘Queers for Ahmadinejad,’ ‘Queers for Prop 8,’ or ‘Queers Against Gay Adoption,’ ‘Queers for AIDS,’ Lucas said.

“Of course they won’t do it, because they would consider this hate speech, but bashing Israel is perfectly fine with them.
