What the heck is Thanksgivukkah? Only the rarest holiday-- ever

Thanksgivukkah is the rarest holiday in the world, occurring once every 70,000 years or so. And since Thanksgiving has only been a holiday for somewhere between 1621 or 1863, and the present day, it's a relative newcomer to the holiday party. And there's no guarantee that humans, or their holidays will still be around in 70,000 years.

That fact makes Thanksgivukkah the rarest holiday ever.

In addition to Thanksgiving, November 28 is also the first day of Hanukkah.

As families gather across the United States to offer prayers of thanksgiving, American Jews will also be gathering to celebrate the first day of Hanukkah, celebrating the ancient rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem. Of course, they will also be celebrating Thanksgiving too, which makes the day doubly special.

Late-night television personalities, such as Stephen Colbert, have already poked fun at the once-in-seventy-millennium coincidence and talk shows are using the confluence as an opportunity to highlight Jewish recipes.

Often, the recipes are traditional Hanukkah delicacies, but with a Thanksgiving twist.

In Boston, Mayor Thomas Menino said he would proclaim Nov. 28 as "Thanksgivukkah Day" in the city, the first such mayor to acknowledge the holiday. The Jewish community in Boston has created a website dedicated to the holiday.

Children are making "Menurkeys," Menorahs that incorporate turkeys into their design. One Kickstarter campaign is even selling an unusual take on the menorah for the holiday.

Also coincidental, Nov. 28 is the day famous Comet ISON passes closest to the Sun. In football, the Raiders will play the Cowboys and one of them must lose, a cause for celebration in itself.

Best 36th birthday ever!

This past weekend I threw an awesome 36th birthday party at my house, McFeldern Gardens. It was fun, fabulous and filled with close friends and confidants. This gaggle of gays & gals are amazing friends who helped me celebrate my 36th rotation around the Sun in style. The food was delicious and plentiful, the drink was constant and conversation was light and fun. The evening could not have gone better and was a most magical night. To add to that magic was the presence of my new special friend, Rupaul, who in fact shares the same birthday with me so we are birthday twins on Nov 17th, Scorpios rule!
Check out these cool photos from the party.
Ru and Eyal
Fellow Scorpio, Angela, who brought her own "I love Ang"
sunglasses to the party for people to wear.
Peter Cooney III proclaiming his love of wine and Ang
Brendan loving Ang and Eric Leven too.
Happy Birthday to me!

More Russian Persecution of LGBTs in Leadup to Summer Olympics

In what has to be the least surprising turn of events since Napoleon discovered Russia to be a tad chilly, Russian officials revealed they’ve been spying on LGBT groups, secretly recording meetings in order to discredit civil rights campaigns.
This week state media broadcast a “documentary” that paints gays and lesbians pretty much as you’d expect: as a threat to the country created by Western agitators.
Of course, the Olympic Committee immediately condemned the act. Hahaha, no, just kidding, they don’t care. They’ve got more important i$$ues to worry about.
It’s clear that Russian LGBT organizers are getting frustrated with the whole Olympics situation. Russian state propagandists played one secretly-taped conversation, in which the civil rights advocates discussed their exasperation with sponsors who refuse to take a stand on the state-sanctioned persecution.
Meanwhile a group of HIV/AIDS organizers were just attacked with air guns and baseball bats in St. Petersburg and the police did nothing. The Sochi games are in early February, are almost certain to provoke more anti-gay violence, and are sponsored by Coca-Cola, Dow, GE, Panasonic, McDonald’s, and Visa.

My hometown high school, Calabasas High School, crowns Lesbian couple as homecoming queens

Over the weekend my hometown high school of Calabasas in the LA area just crowned a lesbian couple  homecoming queen and queen over the weekend at Calabasas High School. Interviewed by the LA Times some quotes from the queens just make you smile.

“I was really surprised, actually, but I thought it was really amazing," said Lily Cohen, who along with her partner, Greta Melendez, was nominated by her classmates for titles that historically have been awarded to a male and a female student as king and queen.
But for the first time at Calabasas High, that changed Saturday.
“We think the reason that we were picked to win is because, usually the homecoming king and queen are the most popular in their group of friends — whereas we are friends with all the little groups of people,” she said. “And they’ve never had a voice. They’ve never had someone to vote for.”
This story just makes me so proud to be from a tolerant and open city of Calabasas!
Check out this KTLA video interview of the lovely homecoming queens of CHS!

Queerty: Creator Of Boy Butter Completes Record Swim In World’s Saltiest Body Of Water

Last Friday, Eyal Feldman, founder of popular lubricant Boy Butter — as if I had to tell you what it was — completed a 1.2 mile swim in the Dead Sea, according to a post by Eyal Feldman on the Boy Butter Blog (you’d need some lube just to say that three times fast).
Feldman, apparently a “long time marathon swim enthusiast”, said he did the swim “just to see if it could be done.” The Dead Sea — one of the world’s saltiest bodies of water and Earth’s lowest elevation on land bordering Israel, Palestine and Jordan — is nearly 10 times saltier than the ocean and is so dense with salt that swimming is similar to floating.
But Feldman managed to slip right through it like a hot boy knife through boy butter, completing the stunt in 35 minutes — what, he claims, may be a world record.
Though swimming in the Dead Sea is encouraged for health and holistic reasons, it’s also considered the second most dangerous place to swim in Israel. Many think it’s impossible to drown in the Dead Sea thanks to how thick and molassy it is, but in 2010, 21 people had to be pulled to safety by lifeguards.
Not Eyal Feldman.  The “dozens of people” who are drowned every year made “this a super fun challenge.” Feldman apparently avoided getting salt poisoning as well, so I can only assume that the amount of Boy Butter he’s exposed to on a daily basis soaked up all of that gorgeous sea salt.
Killing two birds with one stone, if he was feeling peckish after his swim, Eyal could’ve just scraped down his skin and spread it on some toasted buns. Delish.
